Profile:
My work has always been influenced by and concerned with the myths, legends and religions that shape our lives. This recent series (see photo)is inspired by Kami, the Japanese word for the spirits, natural forces, or essences in the Shinto faith. Some Kami are human-like or animistic, while others are associated with nature and natural phenomena, such as rivers, lightning, wind, waves, trees, rocks, etc. People and Kami are not separate entities; they exist within the same world and share its interrelated complexities. These figures represent the deities and spirits of another dimension of human experience - the unconscious.
Born and raised in New York City, I received a BFA from The Cooper Union and hold a Master's Degree in printmaking and drawing from William Paterson University. My prints, multi-medium works on paper, and photography have been exhibited nationally and in Canada in galleries and museums.f I have had several national solo exhibitions. I actually have a rather impressive resume but really, other than my mother, who cares what I did ten years ago?
Clay is a relatively new medium for me, having come to it about six years ago. My work is all hand-built and sculptural, and is inspired by nature, mythology, legends, fairy tales and things that go bump in the night.
