Profile:
Linda Finkelstein is a contemporary artist who has been fascinated with the process of making things. She enjoys using different art mediums to create an organic whole. The beauty of color and texture are definite guides. Painting, printmaking and collage are avenues she travels to explore nature and imaginary places.
As an art teacher, she has been inspired by her students and enjoys inspiring them by looking at art and appreciating the ways artists approach their work. She is inspired by animals with their amazing markings, color and pattern and the world of nature is a steady source of creative possibilities. Linda relates to Monet’s need to capture the moment .She likes to build upon that notion with her own touch and fantasy, joy and spirit.
Linda attended Boston University where she received a degree in Fine Arts, Concordia University in Montreal, Canada where she received a degree in Art Education. She has a Masters in Special Education from University of Pittsburgh.
Her works have been shown extensively at galleries, schools and libraries in and around Sussex County and Morris County, N.J. and in Montclair, N.J. She is a member of the Sussex Arts and Heritage Council, Morris County Art Association and Studio Montclair. She has been the featured artist at Sussex County Arts and Heritage and has participated in juried shows.
Linda has found the Mandala Project a great experience! Viewing Mandalas at The Rubin Museum in NYC and seeing the intricacy involved in creating these symbols was a humbling and awesome visual journey.
Linda’s mandalas are personal and in tune with her spirit. They relate to themes concerning inner space, outer space, intention, power, balance ,color, birth and joy. She will incorporate the form of a circle and stretch beyond into her own sensibility and spirit. Painting, monotypes and collage are the mediums used to create these varied works. “Making these mandalas has been a meaningful and beautiful flow experience. I just want to keep making them!”
