I've been doing art now for many years, on and off. It's not like there's a choice of not creating new art...there certainly isn't.
I've reached the time in my life that I can do what I want, and don't worry about whether it will sell or not, or whether it's going to be popular. I like to try as many new techniques and art forms as I possibly can.
I love to paint, but I love sculpture even more.
In my personal artistic journey, I've found that sculpture is the real deal, and demands more of my particular energies than painting. I believe it's the 3rd dimension that sculpture must have that is the challenge to me...there are no tricks in sculpture....no forced lighting , or lost edges, etc.---it must all be there..
My favorite/ ideal and most satisfying art form is painted sculpture
I've had a show here and there, and I've sold a piece here and there; but ultimately, that is not important. I guess this the measure of success. The artist who can sell their art and make a living at it is indeed lucky.
I consider myself lucky just to be able to create as often as I do, whatever it may be, sold or unsold.
The gift, I've come to learn and cherish about art, is that it offers the ultimate sanity of allowing one to be insane.
