Entry Deadline: Friday, March 23rd
Acceptance Notices Sent: Wednesday, April 4th
Drop Off Artwork: Thursday April 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 22nd from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 28th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Pick Up Artwork: Sunday, June 3th from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday June 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
From April 29 through June 2, the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council will host its 25th Annual Skylands Juried Art Exhibit. A benchmark for quality art shows in the New Jersey highlands, each year artists 18 years of age or older are invited to submit entries in any media. This year Marilyn Stevenson, a professional photographer, curator and gallery director, judged the works of art submitted by artists in tri-state area. 81 pieces were selected for the show from almost 400 entries.
The champagne reception with the artist will be held at the Council’s gallery on Saturday, April 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Perona Farms will cater the event and harpist Cecilia Parker will provide the entertainment. The reception serves as a major fundraiser for the Council and everyone is welcome. Admission with advance reservations is $20 and can be made by calling 973-383-0027 or by going to http://25skylandsjuriedart.eventbrite.com/. Admission at the door is $25. The presentation of awards starts at 6:30 p.m. These monetary awards, which total over $3000, were donated by patrons, businesses and organizations. They are given for different artistic achievements and include the annual prizes of the “Patrick-Claus Award” for first place, the “Bruce & Beverly Gordon Award” for second place, and the “Best New Skylands Artist Award”.
The gallery is located in the Council’s office at 133 Spring Street in Newton, NJ. The exhibition is sponsored by the NJ Herald and can be viewed free of charge during normal office hours: Tuesday thru Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. More information about Skylands and other events is available is on the Council’s website www.scahc.org or by calling 973-383-0027.
