People’s Choice Exhibition: The Abstract Mind On View

Experience the creativity and imagination of local artists in The Abstract Mind, this year’s People’s Choice Exhibition at the Spring Street Gallery. Inspired by the winning theme, participating artists explore the inner landscapes of thought, emotion, memory, and perception through a wide range of artistic styles and interpretations.

From tranquil imagery that evokes peace and reflection to bold abstract compositions filled with vibrant color and expressive forms, the exhibition invites viewers to consider how emotions and ideas can be transformed into visual art. Each piece offers a unique perspective on the many ways the mind interprets and experiences the world.

Visitors are encouraged to take part in the exhibition by voting for their favorite artwork throughout the show’s run. Voting will remain open until Saturday, August 15 at 3 PM.

The artwork receiving the most votes will be honored with the People’s Choice Award during the Reception and Award Presentation on Saturday, August 15 from 6–7:30 PM.

Don’t miss this engaging exhibition celebrating creativity, expression, and community participation.

Admission to the gallery at SCAHC is free; however, as a nonprofit organization, donations are always appreciated.

Join us for an evening celebrating the creativity and imagination of local artists during the reception for The Abstract Mind, this year's People’s Choice Exhibition at the Spring Street Gallery. Inspired by the community-selected theme, participating artists explore thought, emotion, memory, and perception through a wide variety of artistic styles, mediums, and interpretations.

Since the exhibition opened, gallery visitors have been casting their votes for their favorite work of art. During the reception, we will announce the recipient of this year’s People’s Choice Award.

Meet the artists, enjoy an inspiring collection of original artwork, and celebrate this unique community exhibition on Saturday, August 15, from 6–7:30 PM. Admission is free. As a nonprofit organization, donations are always appreciated and help support SCAHC's exhibitions, educational programs, and community events.

Luminous Watercolors is a four-session course designed for learners with little to moderate watercolor experience who want to develop confidence, control, and superior artistic expression. Students will explore essential watercolor techniques with an emphasis on luminosity – the use of light, layering and color harmony to create vibrant, glowing paintings.

Denise Chocchiaro is an award-winning watercolor artist whose work has been widely recognized and published in several magazines. Through luminous washes and transparent color, Denise captures intimate, magical moments that reveal not only the form of her subjects but their essence and spirit. Denise has taught watercolor classes and private students for many years and is known for her supportive and inspiring teaching style.

Introduction to Stained Glass: Fall Leaves

Session 1: September 5 from 11 AM-2 PM

Session 2: September 12 from 11 AM-1:30 PM

Location: SCAHC Spring Street Gallery – 133 Spring Street | Newton, NJ 07860

Celebrate the cooling weather and change of season! Choose from 5 patterns to create a colorful spinning falling leaf with glass crystal.

A unique two-day beginner experience will introduce you to the fine art of Tiffany-style stained glass.

All materials will be provided, including glass, patterns, tools, and equipment.

Session 1

An immersive introduction to stained glass; students will choose from a beautiful assortment of stained glass and will have hands-on learning using tools to score and separate glass and complete a rough layout of glass projects.

Session 2

A brief tutorial of the history of stained glass, the different types of glass, and stained-glass styles. A short video will be shown on how sheets of stained glass are made. Students will then learn the Tiffany method of copper foiling and preparing their projects for soldering. Each piece of glass will be edged with copper foil and students will be amazed at how their projects transform into beautiful works of art!

Bonus! Students may choose to embellish their leaves with a spinner, chain, and glass crystal.

Grinding and soldering will be completed by the instructor. Completed soldered projects will be available for pick-up at SCAHC after 30 Sep.

*If you wear readers, bring them! You will definitely need your eyes.

*Safety glass will be available or feel free to bring your own.

* Closed-toed shoes are REQUIRED

Mosaic Charcuterie Board Workshop

Saturday, November 7 from 10 AM-12 PM

Create a one-of-a-kind Decorative Mosaic Charcuterie Board in this hands-on workshop! You’ll design and assemble a beautiful mosaic board using colorful glass and ceramic tiles while learning the basics of layout, adhesive application, and grouting.

Choose from a variety of colors and patterns to make your board uniquely yours. No prior mosaic experience is needed, and all materials and step-by-step instruction are included.

Your finished piece is perfect for displaying in your kitchen, giving as a handmade gift for the upcoming holiday season, or using as a decorative serving board.

Come ready to relax, get creative, and enjoy a fun mosaic-making experience!

Please note there will be a demo of the grouting process in the workshop but we will not grout together for the integrity of your piece. All grout supplies and a video will be provided to finish your piece at your convenience.
