When you think of art and history, what comes to your mind? Do these thoughts take you back to your childhood; with the variety of each having been taught in school? Have you thought about continuing or expanding a talent you may be possessing or don’t know you have? Would you like to try? We are an organization that welcomes all, keeping the arts and heritage alive for you, for the young, the elderly, and everyone in-between.

As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization for Sussex County, designated by the Sussex County Freeholders, as the official arts & heritage organization for Sussex County, we provide funding for Sussex County arts, history, and social programs, distributing grant funds provided by the State of New Jersey. We are authorized by the State to re-grant state-funded support to well deserving local non-profit organizations, for both youth and adults alike, in areas of both performing and visual arts as well as history, throughout the County. We retain a small sum from these funds for expenses incurred administering the grant programs. However, this covers just a fraction of our costs. We must make up the difference with the help of our sponsors and supporters, like yourself, contributions by our members, and our various fundraising events held throughout the year.

For the last 46 years, the Arts Council has provided many services to the residents of Sussex County with workshops, a summer art camp for children, gallery exhibits, Xpose Juried Photography Exhibit, and the well-known Skyland’s Juried Art Show. We host art shows in our gallery on Spring Street in the heart of downtown Newton as well as art exhibits in local businesses, the Newton Courthouse, and at the Performing Arts Center at the Sussex County Community College. Your work, whether you are a new artist or professional, could be displayed at many of these venues. This is how we provide cultural enhancement as well as enrichment to all our communities. The holiday season is almost upon us. We hope you will please consider supporting the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council. Your gift is extremely important, because it offers immediate resources that are directed to current needs and opportunities. Just know that you are helping touch the lives of many, and any donation you make really does make a difference! Since we are a 501(c)(3) organization, donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. We will provide a letter of acknowledgement to submit to the IRS. If you cannot donate at this time; would you consider coming in and volunteering your time to help? Have you considered becoming a member? We would love to meet you, see your artwork, or have you attend one of our events or upcoming workshops.
