Founded in 2011, Heritage Weekend showcases the area's diverse historical treasures by highlighting local museums, historic sites, organizations, and historical societies. This annual event gives visitors the opportunity to explore the people, places, and events that have shaped our community.
Use our Interactive Map to discover participating locations and plan your Heritage Weekend adventure. You can also download the Information Brochure for a complete list of participating sites and additional event details.
Before visiting, please check each site's website or Facebook page for the latest hours, programming, and any last-minute updates. Please note that sites located on state or federal lands operate under their respective agencies' guidelines and regulations.

 | Revolution 250 Traveling Exhibit "Revolutionary Lives: Living the American Experiment Then and Now" On View at SCAHC Saturday, October 10 | 12 - 5 PM Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council This traveling exhibition explores the tumultuous period of the American Revolution through the stories of everyday people under extraordinary circumstances. They urge us to consider how their stories echo through time, and what we can do to fulfill the promises and ideals of the Revolution. See Website for more info. |

| History Talk: Women and the American Revolution Sunday, October 11 | 1 - 2PM Location: to be determined Join Joel Farkas for an illuminating history talk that brings to life 25 remarkable women who broke the mold and defied 18th-century expectations. At a time when women were expected to remain silent and unseen, they became spies, strategists, writers, business owners, and even soldiers.  | Special Exhibition "Posters for the People: Art of the WPA (Works Progress Administration)" Saturday, October 10 | 11AM - 6PM Peters Valley School of Craft The Sally D. Francisco Gallery at Peters Valley School of Craft presents Posters for the People: Art of the WPA, a special exhibition celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Poster Division. Featuring original New Deal-era posters from 1936–1943 and rare archival reproductions, the exhibit explores how public art promoted education, health, culture, and community during the Great Depression. Visitors can also enjoy self-guided tours of Peters Valley’s active workshop areas from 2–5 p.m. |
| Van Campen Day Sunday, October 11 | 12PM - 4PM Walpack Center Join Walpack Historical Society for this annual event and learn the history of the Van Campen Inn through tours, a variety of demonstrations and hikes to several old cemeteries. Interpretations at the Van Campen Inn focus on the colonial and Revolutionary War eras. Walpack Center, once a bustling farm community, will have several buildings (including the Walpack Methodist Church, General Store/Post Office, museum, barn and schoolhouse) open to the public. Tours and demonstrations occurring in Walpack Center depict life in a rural service center during the early 20th century. |

Live Demo with Local Train Enthusiast
Saturday, October 10 | 10AM - 5PM Sparta Train Station See a HO scale model train station set up and running at Sparta Train Station! A local train enthusiast will be available to answer questions about the trains and Sparta Train Station, and there will be artifacts on display depicting the stations transformation through the years. |
